FA expel non-league side Litherland Remyca from FA Cup over unpaid £10 fine

Ninth-division side fielded a player in win against Charnock Richard who owed governing body money after being fined at a previous club

THE Football Association have booted a non-league club out of this season's FA Cup over an unpaid £10 fine.

Litherland Remyca, who play in the ninth tier of English football, beat Charnock Richard on August 11 to set up a clash against Leek Town last Saturday.

But that game was postponed pending an investigation by the FA after Litherland fielded a player against Charnock who owed the governing body money, the Merseyside club confirmed.

The player received a one-match ban last season for not paying a £10 fine while at his previous club.

That suspension was carried over when he moved to the North West Counties League Premier Division side, Litherland revealed.

The club's expulsion from the FA Cup will hit them in their pockets as they will now miss out on any matchday revenue and potential prize money.

A statement on the Litherland's website said: "Despite what we considered a strong case and representation at appeal hearings, today the FA have considered their case regarding the ineligibility of the player as proven.

"This is a massive blow with numerous implications, including financial issues as part of the penalty includes removal of prize money and future gate and match day income.

"The sanctions for a minor administration technicality are considerable, but we must dust ourselves down, learn from the experience and come back stronger."
