Aldi shopper breaks tooth biting into a STONE in a cheese and onion sandwich
Security worker Chris Saitta told how he first knew something was wrong when he heard a crunching noise and blood started pouring from his mouth
AN ALDI regular was horrified after he bit into a cheese and onion sandwich from the budget supermarket – and broke his tooth on a stone inside it.
Chris Saitta, 38, received £400 from the Germain retailer to repair his shattered incisor but has vowed to only return "in emergencies".
The security worker of Ancoats, Manchester, said as he took his third bite from the sarnie he heard a crunching noise before blood started gushing from his mouth.
He then reached inside his mouth and pulled out a stone that had been inside the filling.
Chris, who had been a customer of the German chain for eight years, said: “As I took the bite I heard this awful, crunching noise and then felt excruciating pain.
“I looked in the mirror and realised half of my tooth was missing and blood was just pouring out my mouth.
“I phoned my dentist who told me to take paracetamol before coming in to check it. Then I felt inside my mouth and pulled out a stone.
“I was disgusted – how could something like that get into a supermarket sandwich? I don’t want to think about it.”
The lower incisor on the right side of Chris’ mouth crumbled after he took the bite.
Chris notified the store in Ancoats after his ordeal in January and bosses told him to get a letter from his dentist confirming the tooth wasn’t shattered before.
He said: “They were incredibly concerned, and did seem genuinely worried about how the stone got into the sandwich.

“But it took them three-and-a-half months for them to agree to pay me for what happened. I felt like they were trying to delay payment.
“I still can’t work out how it even happened. I have been shopping there for eight years but now I will only go in an emergency – and I will never buy a sandwich there again.”
An Aldi spokesman said: “We have apologised to Mr Saitta for this isolated incident and have raised the matter with our supplier.”
