Tottenham bid £15million for Borussia Dortmund’s World Cup winning defender Matthias Ginter, say reports in Germany
TOTTENHAM have bid £15million for Borussia Dortmund's World Cup winning defender Matthias Ginter, according to reports in Germany.
Bild claim Mauricio Pochettino have already launched an offer, after we reported Spurs were set to battle Arsenal and Hoffenheim for his signature.
Ginter, 23, was a part of Germany's successful 2014 World Cup winning squad - but failed to see any minutes in Brazil.
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly willing to sell their big centre-half this summer, particularly after Thomas Tuchel's departure from the club.
Spurs face losing Kyle Walker and Danny Rose this summer - with Manchester City eyeing a swoop for the pair.
Toby Alderweireld also faces an uncertain future at the club.
Matthias Ginter factfile
- Born in Freiburg im Breisgua, Germany
- Spent his youth career at SV March and SC Freiburg
- Joined Freiburg's senior team in 2012 - spending two seasons there
- Signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2014
- Was named in Germany's World Cup winning squad the same year
- Ginter was the youngest player in Joachim Loew's squad
- Failed to play a single minute in Brazil
- Has 11 full international caps for Germany
- Scored twice in five games in the 2016 Olympic Games
- Can play in the heart of defence or midfield
Pochettino will like the adaptability of the World Cup-winning defender, who can also be deployed in midfield.
The Tottenham boss also did the same with Eric Dier when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon.
He had the Englishman play in midfield instead of in the back-four, before he became one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League.
SunSport reported back in March that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would also be interested in making a move for Ginter, and after their embarrassing U-turn over Virgil van Dijk.
