TASTE THE DIFFERENCE

Sainsbury’s cafe serves up smashed avocado brunch – and it looks NOTHING like the ad

A SHOPPER eager for a quick breakfast before hitting the aisles was stunned to find her smashed avocado on fancy sourdough toast didn't quite live up to the promised photo.

Jennie Griffiths tweeted her disappointment after she was presented with two bog-standard slices of toast with a few thin dabs of the topping, at the Sainsbury's cafe in Thornhill, Cardiff.

A snap of what should have come her way showed a tasty feast of a thick layer of avocado covering two golden slices of Artisinal-style sourdough bread.

But in an ultimate breakfast fail, Jennie instead had to make do with what appeared to be a very unlovingly put together brekkie - that cost her £2.

The head of joint fire control for South Wales and Mid and West Wales, tweeted: "So being a busy person I thought I'd have my breakfast in @sainsburys before doing my shopping.

"They advertised the first photo... ok that looks good... but I received the second photo."

She was asked if she wanted to contribute to a food blog following her complaint, and she responded: "Certainly, after all I'd never send two red busses with buckets of water if someone asked for fire engines."

A Sainsbury's customer service worker tweeted back to the disgruntled fire services worker, and agreed the difference between the two photos "is night and day indeed".

A response to her complaint later read: "Thanks for that Jennie. I've raised the issue of this rather disappointing toast with our buyers and the store and they will be reviewing it internally.

"I've also placed 400 points (£2) on your Nectar card.

"Please allow 72 hours for this amount to appear. Apologies again for the disappointment Jennie."

A spokesman for Sainsbury’s added: “We’ve apologised to Jennie for her disappointing breakfast and arranged a gesture of goodwill.”

Last week we reported how the supermarket giant has been forced to put £20 jars of honey in security cases following a spate of thefts.

Shoplifters have targeted Rowse’s high-end Manuka variety as well as the store’s own £16.50 version.

They were both spotted in secure transparent plastic boxes by shopper Anton Rossi during a visit to the chain’s Putney High Street branch.
