POLICE closed off busy Shoreditch and Old Street while they investigated a "suspicious package".
People were told to stay in restaurants and a large area was cordoned off during the " incident" which comes just 24 hours after the Westminster terror attack.
Roads in Old Street up to Shoreditch were closed off but police have since been stood down.
A heavy police presence was in place as officers investigated.
Bystanders were told to stay in restaurants, while workers have been evacuated.
Tallia Storm wrote on Twitter: "Stuck inside faraway kitchen Shoreditch after a possible bomb threat has closed off the road we are on."
While Naima Sole said: "Evacuated from work at #shoreditch #WeStandTogether Stay safe everyone".
A similar incident happened in Soho this morning when officers were called to a suspicious vehicle at 10.40am.
Cordons were put in place and buildings were evacuated but the vehicle was deemed non-suspicious at 11.30am.
The Gherkin in central London was also evacuated earlier after smoke was seen billowing from the basement.
A Scotland Yard officer, said: "We were called to Curtain Road, Shoreditch, to reports of a suspicious object at 1.24pm.
"The incident was stood down at around 1.57pm."
London is on high alert after a knifeman ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and stabbed a police officer killing three people before he was shot dead.
