WHITNEY Houston was sexually abused as a child by a Dionne Warwick's younger sister, family members have claimed in a new documentary.
Whitney, directed by Scottish filmmaker Kevin Macdonald alleges Houston's cousin, the soul singer Dee Dee Warwick, abused her, according to reports.
The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and features interviews with several of Houston's relatives and closest friends.
Two of them, Houston's half-brother, the former NBA basketball player Gary Garland-Houston, and her assistant, Mary Jones, make the allegations against Warwick.
In the documentary, Ms Jones said she recalled Houston saying: “Mary, I was [abused] too. It was a woman.”
Asked who it was, she said Houston replied: “It was Dee Dee Warwick.”
Ms Jones said the singer never told her mum Cissy Houston about the abuse because she felt “ashamed”.
Warwick is the younger sister of soul singing icon Dionne Warwick and was the niece of Houston's mother.
She enjoyed a successful career as a soul singer in the 1960s and 70s but never matched the heights of her more illustrious sister.
Dee Dee died at the age of 63 in 2008.
Houston struggled with drug and alcohol addiction throughout her life.
She accidently drowned in a Beverly Hills hotel bath 2012 after taking cocaine.
Her untimely death aged 48 was the culmination of a tragic life.
Houston ended her volatile 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown in 2007.
