Dressed in casual sports gear and wearing white trainers he looked relaxed and took time to speak with people outside the plane.

One onlooker said "I was just parked up and seen the police arrive and I thought something was going on.

"Then I noticed a small jet with a police car parked in front of it.

"I didn't have a clue what was going on and then Barrack just walked out the plane.

A convoy of around a dozen vehicles then sped off from the airport.

Mr Obama is due to give a keynote speech at a dinner in aid of the Hunter Foundation tonight.

And he joked with golfers about the Scottish weather before teeing off in St Andrews.

He headed straight to the course after touching down in Edinburgh and golf fans were stunned when a convoy turned up and Mr Obama stepped out.

We told you earlier this week how the former president posted a heartfelt tribute to the city of Manchester earlier this week.

He praised the faith and character of those affected by the blast in a tweet to his 88 million followers following the horror attack on Monday night.
