YouTuber Marcus Butler teases plans to mix up the music industry after launching management company to stop singers ‘signing their lives away’ to labels
YOUTUBE star Marcus Butler has teased his plans to shake up the music industry.
The 24-year-old entrepreneur, who recently announced he’d founded music management company Stripped Bear Entertainment, intends on providing struggling artists a platform that doesn’t involve TV talent competitions or “signing their lives away” to major labels.
Marcus opened up about his exciting plans during an exclusive interview with The Sun Online live from YouTube’s Stand Up To Cancer marathon.
He said: “We’ve got two people who are making music at the moment and they’re really talented and that’s all I can really say right now! It’s all really exciting.
“The main ambition is to help people out without getting mugged off by the traditional music industry and I think we’re going to shake waves and get a lot of people looking [when we launch].”
“I feel like musicians think they can only get there if they do shows like the X Factor or a label picks them up right from the beginning and they sign their life away - but we’re going to change that.”
When teased if he sees himself as the Simon Cowell of the online community, Marcus joked: “Maybe a nicer version - not that he’s horrible!”
Although most details of Stripped Bear Entertainment are being kept under wraps at the moment, it was previously revealed Marcus had teamed up with his manager Dom Smales and music manager Bobby Havens for the project.
Smales told TubeFilter: “It’s back to basics. We want to find people at the ground floor of their careers — we’re looking for grassroots talent.”
Marcus took part in Stand Up To Cancer's four hour live-streamed event which raised more than £180,000 for vital cancer research on Saturday.
The grand total was raised after more than 100 YouTube stars took part in over 1,000 hours of filmed challenges to raise funds.
