Brazilian left for Italy on a free in summer and Catalan giants have struggled to replace him, but politely turned down offer

DANI ALVES offered himself to Barcelona for a  January transfer window move, according to reports in Catalonia.

However, he was politely reminded that his time at Barcelona had come to an end and it was he who decided to call time on the trophy-laden eight-year spell.

Alves recently blasted the club’s directors for his treatment during his final three years at the Nou Camp.

Moreover, he broke his leg shortly after contact was made, in a shock 3-1 loss at Genoa — only making his return earlier this month.

Alves’ quality is undoubted, but he has yet to find his swashbuckling best in Serie A.

At Barcelona, he had Lionel Messi just ahead of him and the pair enjoyed a brilliant connection which is yet to replicate in Turin.

Furthermore, the 33-year-old’s children are still in Spain with their mother, and he would like to be nearer to them.

Aleix Vidal was the only certified right-back at the club, but failed to settle and looked certain to leave.

However, shortly after Vidal made his return, he suffered a long-term injury to leave Barca with very few options.
