Monday could be the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures rivalling Mediterranean resorts all week
Mass of hot air and high pressure will also bring stormy conditions to parts of UK but Met Office says southern England could see mercury rise to the high twenties in coming weeks
RAIN-soaked Britain will dry out tomorrow on what could be the hottest day of the year so far.
Forecasters reckon Monday’s temperature might top 25C (77F). And they predict widespread sunshine and warmth to rival Mediterranean resorts for five days.
But hopes of it lasting over the Bank Holiday weekend will fade away behind the clouds as rain returns.
Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “After a wet week with little let up in the rain it will be a nice change to see sunshine and warmer temperatures.
“The weather looks great throughout next week. It’ll be mostly dry, with lots of sunshine and temperatures up to around the mid-20s.

“The year’s highest so far was 25.8C in Gravesend, Kent in April.
“It’s possible we could beat that in London tomorrow.
“Temperatures will gradually climb all week and might just hold for the start of the Bank Holiday weekend. But it will give way to showery rain by Sunday.”
He added: “As we go into the middle of June there will be some further, drier periods developing.”
The predictions for a warm summer come as forecasters said the unsettled weather of the last few days will give way to warmer and more settled conditions.
Any showers expected today are forecast to ease off by this evening with cloudy conditions in the north clearing to leave a mostly dry night.
It will be chilly under clear spells with a local grass frost and fog patches possible.
Although some showers could still breakout, Sunday is expected to be drier with some rather cloudy weather in the northwest and some rain at times.
Elsewhere it will be mainly dry with sunny spells and feeling warmer in the southeast of England but windy in some western areas later.
Some spots of rain could endure in Scotland until Monday but it could also be a little wet and foggy in north-east England.
The rest of Britain can expect sunny spells with scattered showers – particularly in south-west of Britain.
It will be mainly dry on Tuesday, after rain clears the northeast, with that better weather improving to being mostly dry and bright on Wednesday.
