She told The Mirror: “There was an incident with a boy at college where I did completely lose my cool.

“It sounds so petty now but we weren’t getting on and a couple of people were winding me up and going through my belongings and things like that.

“On that day I just walked back into the classroom and I’d had enough. I saw red for five seconds and it’s absolutely something I’m not proud of.”

She added: “I’ve never forgotten it and it has played on mind ever since. I apologised at the time and I still feel really sorry. It was a moment of madness.”

News of the fight emerged last week when a former friend of Grace’s wrote to X Factor bosses about the fight.

The Mirror reported that insider said: "Grace has so much talent, but she is such a disgusting person."

Recalling the incident, another insider added: “During a drama class she saw red over something tiny and lunged for another student. There was a scuffle and the police were called."

A police spokesperson confirmed the incident to The Mirror, saying: “We were called to an assault at St Mary’s College, Blackburn on 19-3-15, in which an 18-year-old male student said he had been attacked by an 18-year-old female student.

“No-one was charged in respect of the complaint and a community resolution was agreed between the parties.”
