He was hit by a passing motorist at around 5pm in Alabama in December AL.com reported, before being pronounced dead by authorities at 5.20pm.

Clark starred in an episode of the MTV reality show in 2013 in a rare happy story for the show that seeks to expose people who lie about their identity while dating online.

In a turnaround for the show, a woman named Jesse Bettinger asked show hosts Nev Shulman and Max Joseph to help her track down the man using Robert's pictures, who she had been getting to know online.

Luckily, he was exactly who he said he was after their three-year dating history and his reasons for not meeting up in real life were valid.

However, the pair eventually decided not to get together in a long distance relationship and opted to remain friends.

When the news broke in December, Jesse paid tribute to Robert, writing: "I'll never forget our good times. Your struggle is finally over."

However, she quickly turned her attention to people who had only got in touch since Brian died.

"Don't all of a sudden act like a friend of mine because Brian passed away," Jesse thundered on Facebook.

"And really MTV? Fake a** producers call me to get info then do a tribute for Brian 3 months after he died... mostly all of you never even met him.

"All about the ratings. ugh! This crap drives me crazy. Just let him rest in peace and leave me alone about it, please."
